BOOK IT!

In 1985, Pizza Hut launched the BOOK IT! Reading Incentive program. This program is designed for children in Kindergarten through Sixth Grade challenging them to make and attain monthly reading goals. When monthly goals are met, the student is awarded a reading certificate to redeem for a pizza at their local Pizza Hut restaurant.

Confession: I was a part of this program way back in 1985. I was a reading nut and read books all the time. So when my teacher announced we were participating in this program, it was easy-peasy for me to meet the goals. I read a lot of books and ate a lot of pizza. 

I recently stumbled upon the BOOK IT! Facebook page and was delighted to see the program still going strong. Teachers, schools, and homeschool parents can sign their students up to particpate in the program that begins October 1st through March 31st. Children not only are incented in this reading program, but attaining these goals builds confidence and fluency in reading.

In addition, on February 15, 2011, children can participate in BOOK IT's Annual Bedtime Story Webcast where Justin Bieber will read his favorite children's book, "The Cat in the Hat", by Dr. Seuss.
