Keep Your Sanity

When my twins first started crawling, it was an exhausting time. Of course, they were excited about their new ability and wanted to practice as much as they could. Who could blame them? If I learned how to finally be mobile, I would want to do the same thing!

Even though they are mobile, babies are not ready to have complete reign of the house. Home accidents and dangers can lurk in any space especially if families are not prepared for the little wanderers to go on an adventure. If families have older children, tiny toys (think Barbie Doll accessories and mini-sized Legos) make inviting items for babies to stick in their mouth. Babies love to find intersting things like plug outlets, electrical cords, and pull themselves up onto potentially unstable items that could tip over.

Babyproofing is essential when babies are on the go. Keep electrical outlets covered, cords out of reach, and anything unstable should be removed or bolted to the wall. Remember if a flat screen TV is sitting on a stand that isn't supportive, it is easy for it to tip over with a little shaking. While not every parent will experience close calls, it is important to consider all the potential hazards in your home and address them. Being prepared will help avoid accidents.
