My dog growing up was a little bit of a chunk. She probably could have used a few more walks around the block than she received. We were a little too generous with the hand outs including her favorite dog biscuits. She was more or less a couch potato and by the look of her, it wasn't surprising. Fortunately, she lived to be 16 years old, so we were lucky. For some pets, however, carrying extra weight can cause a whole host of medical problems and premature death. It is important for pet owners to take care of their furry companions with regular exercise and keeping them on a consistent diet that has few snacks.
It is estimated that 54% of dogs and cats living in the United States are obese. In an effort to help these pudgy pets, Hill's Pet Nutrition along with The Biggest Loser's Alison Sweeney, are inviting pet owners to help get their pets fit and trim with the Science Diet Million Pound Pledge.
Pet owners who pledge to help their pets lose the pounds will receive a free rebate to try Science Diet Weight Management pet food. (This rebate is redeemable at PetSmart locations.) In addition, owners will have access to pet information and weight tracking tools.
