I was driving through the neighborhood today on my way to pick Ten up at a friend's house. On my way there, it seemed like nearly everyone in my zip code was outside doing yard work (just like my kds had been, earlier today). I saw a senior citizen, who wears thick sweaters even on the hottest summer days, sweeping her sidewalk. Across the street, a man was using a weed-whacker. And around the corner, a mom was mowing her lawn while wearing a bikini.
That really burned me up. Not because there's something wrong with wearing a swimsuit to mow the lawn. But because a mom who has kids in middle school can wear a bikini in public.
I know people who issue this warning about certain styles of swimwear: "Just because you can doesn't mean you should." That's not the case here. The fact is, I'm jealous. There's no way I'm going out in public in a swimsuit of any kind. And there's no way, even if I did manage to lose those pesky 30 pounds, that I'll ever wear a bikini again.
It's too late for me, this summer, to rock a swimsuit, skimpy or otherwise. But that mom gets exercise, and she probably doesn't eat ice cream after dinner, and that self-discipline means that she deserves to be able to mow the lawn in a bathing suit.
Speedo is offering up to 60% off swimsuits, so now's a great time to buy the suit that looks best on you!
