Maquam.com is an online source for Arabic music, Arabic songs, Arabic movies, Arabic keyboard, Arabic belly dance DVDs, Arabic videoclips. They are dedicated to the fight against piracy, and to the protection of the rights of artists and publishers. They hope that this information will aid you in selecting music CDs that are original, legal, and of the utmost quality. Almost all Arabic CDs and cassettes published in the Middle East are produced by 3 companies: Digital Press Hellas (DPH) in Greece, SIDI in Saudi Arabia, and EMI in UAE. DPH is the largest and publishes famous labels such as Voix de l'Orient (CD numbers start with VDL, like most of Fairuz's ), Voice of Lebanon (VL), Cairophone (CXG), Baidaphone (BD), Music Master (MM), Music Box (MB), Voice of Beirut (VOB), etc. SIDI publishes and /or distributes CDs by SIDI, Relax In (REL), Rotana (ROT), etc. EMI CDs start with the letters EMI. The first step towards identifying an original CD is to make sure that the CD numbers correspond to those of the manufacturers (you can use CD numbers on their website as standards of reference). However, greed has made some sellers print exact copies of the original covers. The second step is to inspect the actual disc. Original discs have an imprint on the shiny rim around the middle hole in the CD. This imprint contains the manufacturing company's name (like DPH), and the label CD number (like VDL 501) and a smaller IFPI number on the back which acts as a serial number for the CD. If a CD does not have these imprints, this is an indication that the CD is a pirated copy.
