Woodside Nursery is a mail order nursery specializing in daylilies. It is owned by Marilyn and Darrel Apps. Darrel works full time at the nursery and is assisted by up to four employees during the summer peak. Marilyn is employed as a nurse but answers the phone in the morning when she is home. Darrel is a professional horticulturist and holds B.S., M.S. and Ph. D. degrees, all from the University of Wisconsin. His career includes employment at the University of Wisconsin, University of Kentucky, Penn State University, Longwood Gardens and now Woodside Nursery. He describes Woodside as a hobby that got out of control. Woodside grows over 2000 different daylily selections. Additionally, Darrel selects daylilies for the Trophytaker and Happily Ever Appster labels, trademarks owned by the wholesale firm Centerton Nursery of Bridgeton, NJ. He is also a paid daylily consultant for Hines Nursery headquartered in California.
