About Terri: I’ve had a life long love of books. I used to read everything I could. Who knew way back then that books would become my life. After graduating from Lake Mills High School in Lake Mills, Wisconsin, I ventured East. From Moravian College in Bethlehem, PA, I earned a bachelors in Political Science, with minors in Women’s Studies and Sociology. My first job dealing with books was at the Moravian Book Shop. Soon I was drawn to Washington DC where my first job was a summer internship with the Human Rights Campaign. When the summer was over and I needed to find a real job, I landed at Kramerbooks off Dupont Circle (the infamous bookstore that was subpeonaed by Ken Starr for Monica Lewinsky’s purchases.) It was a Kramers that bookselling took hold and refused to let go. I watched David, one of the owners, to see how he spent his time, his relations with staff, customers and vendors. I watched Clinton, the book buyer, to see how he stocked and restocked the store. I learned how to display books and how to deal with customers and problems. I also hired, trained, and scheduled new staff. I started as a clerk, but left a bookseller!
